ABOUT ME
Hi, I’m Shannon White Hat, a proud member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe. Home is where the heart is, and for me, that’s here in Lawrence, Kansas—where I’m part of a vibrant, intertribal community thanks to the presence of Haskell Indian Nations University. It’s also where I built my foundation, earning a degree in American Indian Studies from Haskell and later an MBA from Baker University.

Fast forward to 2025, and you’ll find me setting up my booth at local powwows and Native-centered events—sharing my work and connecting with others through art. What began as a simple beadwork hobby has grown into something so much more: a creative journey that reflects who I am, where I come from, and what I stand for. From peyote stitch designs to handwoven dreamcatchers, and now signature purses and t-shirts, my work has become a celebration of culture, identity, and resilience.

One of the things I love most is sharing the story behind the art. At my booth, I often talk about the history of ribbon work—how ribbons were introduced by the French and traded with tribes in the Great Lakes region, eventually making their way to the Plains, including my own people in the Dakotas. I also take every opportunity to speak about something close to my heart: the epidemic of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW). I lost my grandmother to violence, and justice was never served. That pain lives with me, and it's why I created a purse with a red handprint over a woman’s face—a powerful symbol of the ongoing fight for justice and awareness.

Welcome to Shannon White Hat Boutique—a place where art, culture, and community come together. Every piece I create is made with intention, love, and the hope that it speaks to your spirit. Whether it’s a purse stitched with tradition or a t-shirt bursting with color and meaning, I hope you find something here that brings you joy and connection.
Thank you for being here.
